About XenGuard

Protecting the Living Heritage of British Gardens

We bring together specialist knowledge, trusted British supply and our family commitment to protecting box hedging for generations to come.

Born from first-hand experience

We are a family-owned British horticultural company, run collectively by the Turner Family across three generations.

We created XenGuard after experiencing first-hand the serious damage that box tree moth caterpillar can cause across extensive areas of box hedging.

Managing estate-scale planting made the consequences impossible for us to ignore. We saw how established hedges that had taken years to shape and mature could be damaged within a remarkably short period, placing both the appearance and horticultural value of the garden at risk.

Our story

A problem we understood personally

Our family has long managed substantial areas of box hedging. When box tree moth caterpillar began damaging the planting, the problem was not theoretical for us. It was affecting a garden that had required years of care, maintenance and investment.

After extensive research, we identified XenTari® as a viable treatment option. Yet finding the product was only part of the challenge. It was generally available in quantities designed for much larger-scale use, while clear, accessible guidance for British gardeners was limited.

As people familiar with our gardens began experiencing the same problem, they asked us for help. Many were unfamiliar with box tree moth caterpillar and did not understand why apparently healthy hedging was rapidly declining.

We initially helped people directly, sometimes providing the work without charge. These early experiences showed us how widespread the problem had become and how urgently people needed a trusted British source of treatment, education and practical support.

Our family

The Turner Family

We are a family-owned business shaped by three generations of shared experience caring for extensive box planting and responding directly to box tree moth caterpillar.

Our common purpose is to make specialist box-tree protection more accessible while helping preserve the gardens and planting traditions that make Britain’s landscape distinctive.

Our purpose

Making specialist protection accessible

We created XenGuard to make XenTari® accessible in practical quantities to people who need to protect box hedging, topiary and formal planting without purchasing more product than their garden requires.

A treatment commonly supplied in bulk is not always practical for an individual garden, a small estate, a gardener managing several customers or a grounds team with a defined seasonal requirement.

We bridge that gap by combining genuine XenTari® supply with clear guidance, practical pack formats and support grounded in our own experience of the problem.

Our aim is not simply to sell a product. It is to help customers recognise the problem, understand the importance of timely action and protect planting that may have taken many years to establish.

The product

Genuine XenTari®, made more accessible

We supply products based on XenTari®, a specialist biological insecticide used in the control of susceptible caterpillar pests.

XenTari® has traditionally been supplied in larger quantities. Our role is to make appropriate quantities more accessible to customers whose requirements do not extend to kilograms of product.

We present every XenGuard product with clear information and supply it through our dependable British business, with a commitment to quality, authenticity and customer support.

We are an independent British horticultural company and are not Sumitomo Chemical. XenTari® is a registered trademark of its respective owner.

British horticulture

Box hedging is more than a garden feature

Box hedging has helped define British gardens for generations. It gives structure to formal planting, frames paths and borders, shapes topiary and contributes to the character of private gardens, estates, hotels and public spaces throughout the country.

When mature box planting is lost, the impact is not limited to a single season. Years of careful shaping, growth and investment can disappear with it.

We believe that box tree moth caterpillar should not be allowed to limit the beauty, ambition or future of Britain’s gardens.

Our work is driven by a genuine affection for British horticulture and a desire to help preserve its living character for future generations.

A considered approach to garden protection

We believe effective garden protection should be approached carefully, responsibly and with respect for the wider garden environment.

XenTari® is a biological insecticide based on Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. aizawai. It must always be used in accordance with its authorised product label and supplied instructions.

Our role is to support clear understanding, responsible use and appropriate monitoring rather than encourage indiscriminate application.
